The next event in the Sunday Piazza Live series is set to sizzle with a performance by Perth singer Shameem. Still on a high from supporting Ronan Keating last month, Shameem’s style is a fusion of 90s R&B with 70s’ funk elements. The free event is this Sunday from 1pm to 3:30pm.

A VICTORIA Park singer will hit the Northbridge Piazza stage this weekend. Shameem Taheri-Lee, who performs as Shameem, and her band, will fill the piazza with jazz fusion songs from her debut album, as well as a few classic jazz numbers.
It is another event to add to Taheri-Lee’s list of performances, which includes supporting Ronan Keating a A Day on The Green, as well as shows at the Adelaide Fuse Festival.

Horrid hair!!
Trying a new hairstyle 30 minutes before you have to leave the house for an important show is NOT a good idea. I’d recently purchased a hair curler and was super-keen to give it a go, but prolonged frustration in front of the bathroom mirror trying to make it look right saw me driving in a frenzy through the winding roads of Kings Park, navigating road blocks and security checks to get myself backstage just in the nick of time for a soundcheck… only to realise as I gazed at myself in the dressing room mirror, after said soundcheck, that however inadequate the the hairdo was looking when I left the house, a light sweat and ruffling in the wind in my hasty journey had rendered it completely oomph-less.

Her expressive, naturally soulful voice and sense for conscious lyrics is both refreshing and infectious. While her songs defy a number of musical conventions, none will walk away without a tune replaying in their head.

So, in case you don’t know, I’m one of those people who’s always trying to think ahead. What will I be doing after I’ve finished doing what I’m doing right now? What will I be doing tomorrow? The day after? Next week? Next month? Next year? Where will I be? How will I get there? What if there’s something I can do right now which will make it better once I get there???!!

“The Soothing Melody of Shameem Taheri-Lee” – Heartbeat blog article 30/11/11
A shimmering wave of beautiful jazz music entices the lucky ears of civilians down under in Australia. This lovely wave has traveled into my ears delightfully sending my whole aura into a state of sheer euphoria. The music comes from Shameem Taheri-Lee, an artist who protrudes an essence of chill vibes from her light and smooth voice. A mixed array of emotions arise from her song “Sleeper on the Night Train.” It pulls my senses to full attention with its enchanting piano and guitar playing. The tune embodies a message of choosing one’s own destiny instead of just waiting for it to choose you. Her voice slowly flows through the chorus like a gentle river rocking a boat on a calm night. This song is so soothing to the ears that I could almost imagine singing it to my future children when I put them to bed one day. The tranquility of her voice could rock a sweet child to sleep and help them dream of courageous ventures because of the ambitious words of her charming melody.
