AMR & BD Times article 04/02/11 – “Shameem Taheri-Lee”
“Some performers need the audience to listen long and carefully before anyone gets that there is something good going on. With Shameem you’d have to be locked in a lead-lined room to miss this lady’s sparkle. Her charisma and sheer energy on stage command attention and the listener is rewarded with a swinging, soulful sound – this is what jazz is all about.”
When the likes of James Morrison compliment an artist with special praise like this, you have to believe she’s something special.
Born in Australia to a Chinese-Malaysian father and Iranian mother, Shameem Taheri-Lee draws from her multi-cultural heritage to produce a truly eclectic sound which has the ability to silence the most rowdy pub crowd.
Her talent has sparked demand from the finest jazz clubs and sophisticated music venues throughout Australia. However, her passion and true talent lies in creating songs infused with soul, R&B and groove. Her unique fusion of 90s-esque R&B with jazz, a love of acoustic instruments, her naturally soulful voice and sense for conscious lyrics is refreshing and infectious.
Shameem Taheri-Lee will perform at the Esplanade Hotel tonight from 8:30pm and the Settlers Tavern tomorrow from 9:30pm.
