A VICTORIA Park singer will hit the Northbridge Piazza stage this weekend. Shameem Taheri-Lee, who performs as Shameem, and her band, will fill the piazza with jazz fusion songs from her debut album, as well as a few classic jazz numbers.

It is another event to add to Taheri-Lee’s list of performances, which includes supporting Ronan Keating a A Day on The Green, as well as shows at the Adelaide Fuse Festival.

“I have been performing seriously since my second year of university, about 2008, and recently we have beeen getting some really good events,” she said. “However, being a musician, I have really been performing since I can remember.”

The 23-year-old WA Academy of Performing Arts graduate said her influences included modern soul singers as well as past greats such as Aretha Franklin.

“I have two sets of influences – one is my singing where I draw inspiration from Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey if I admit it,” she said. “Then my songwriting is really influences by the likes of Sting and Michael Jackson.”

Shameem will hit the stage from 1pm on March 11.
