Hidden Treasures 2015

Recently I performed at the fantastic Hidden Treasures festival… the west end of Fremantle is brought to life every Thursday night in July with an array of bands, artists, and DJs taking over four (normally quieter) venues. It’s such a lovely festival and is cherished by the Freo locals, who flock out despite the cold, wet weather to be warmed up by the music! Thanks Rachael Barrett for these photos, love ’em!

Tonee and I

Flight from Perth to Sydney: 4 hours. Sydney to LA: 14 hours. LA to Atlanta: 4 hours.

In Atlanta airport there is a baby grand piano in the food court of one of the terminals. The man at the piano is Tonee, who tinkles the ivories and croons the best of pop, soul and jazz tunes to the diverse people who pass through the food court. As I sat enjoying a smoothie, Tonee noticed me lip-syncing along to his music, and called me up to perform in his place. The crowd at Atlanta airport showed their appreciation of my covers of Aretha Franklin and Michael Jackson with warm-hearted applause – it was a good start to the trip!

Faster Louder article 22/03/11 – “Perth Street Culture and Arts Festival”

“… soul acts such as Shameem Taheri-Lee whose sultry vocal style and the sensual musicality of her backing band enthralled audiences and captivated onlookers…”

Northbridge, infamous for the ne’er do wells and folk of dubious moral character that stalk its foreboding streets at night was transformed in to a veritable fête de la musique last Sunday for the Perth Street Culture and Arts Festival. Located on William Street, stretching from the Moon Café by Newcastle Street to the Perth Mosque, the festival was relatively small in size, however whatever it lacked in quantity it easily compensated for in quality.
