WA’s Great South

Just recently, the band embarked on the scenic 5-hour drive to WA’s Great South to perform shows in the lovely towns of Albany and Denmark. Here’s a snap of me and guitarist Dom Barrett at the ABC South Coast studios, where we did an acoustic on-air performance.

Later that day we performed at the beautiful Denmark Arts Markets. Such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere, with the audience all chilling out on the grassy river bank.

“Shameem’s unique fusion” – The Weekender article 08/12/11

Perth Songstress Shameem will be bringing her band and brand new album to Albany for a show at the White Star Hotel on Friday, December 16.

Dubbed Australia’s answer to Alicia Keys and often compared to British chanteuse Sade, Shameem’s style is a unique fusion of 90s-esque R&B/ soul with jazz and 70s funk elements, employing a live band. Her expressive, naturally soulful voice and sense for conscious lyrics is both refreshing and infectious. While her songs defy a number of musical conventions, none will walk away without a tune replaying in their head.

Touring WA – the beautiful south

So I was making a video blog… but it’s going to take awhile to finish up and edit that after the tour, so here’s your news in writing! After a kicking Thursday night tour launch at the Ellington, Friday midday we set out from my place – 6 band members in 2 cars; 4 amps, a PA system, drum kit and various instruments, plus two trolleys loaded up under tarp in a trailer.

The Weekender article 03/02/11 – “Refreshing and infectious voice”

A PERTH singer dubbed Australia’s answer to Alicia Keys, will be performing this Sunday, February 6, at the White Star Hotel.

Shameem Taheri-Lee’s Albany visit during a state-wide tour with her band. “I’ve done one-off regional performances before, but this is the first time I’ll be touring the great state,” the singer/ songwriter said. “It’ll be a real adventure; there aren’t a lot of bands who do extensive regional touring in WA… especially not as far as I’m going.”
