Higher Ground

BLOG ENTRY 20/08/10

Egads! It’s been a long time since I’ve updated this space. Where have I been, you ask? Lying low after a few months of hectic gigging, that’s where!

Actually no, I lie. I’ve been doing a fair few commercial gigs – singing jazz standards at corporate functions, birthdays and the like. I had this one great gig where the band was free to help themselves to the cocktails being served, and there was a guy there shucking fresh oysters. Having not tried oysters since I was a kid, I decided to give it a whirl and thus discovered a new passion… mmmm, MUST get another gig where we get free oysters!! *sigh* I wish I didn’t have such expensive taste…

Anywho, to the IMPORTANT stuff. “I Look Up” video preview is now available – click here to check it out, and send it around to your friends! Full length video clip coming soon, so stay tuned. To be among the first with the link to the full-length clip, “like” my facebook fan page (see the icon on the sidebar of this page). Ha, now that was a shameless plug! I’ve also been busy re-vamping my promotional tactics with the aim of getting some support gigs for major touring artists in the next few months. My big goal is to get the support gig for Michael Bublé next year – wouldn’t that be awesome?

Another big goal that I’ve been working towards is a regional tour of WA for early 2011, and then an Australian tour for later in 2011. Regional tour is first on the cards – looks like it’ll be a weekend performing in the south-west and then a trip up north to do several venues between Geraldton and Broome. So at the moment I’m up to my eyeballs calling up venues and applying for grants… wish me luck!

Sometimes I feel it’s scary to have such high goals… scary, because if I don’t achieve them, I’d be so disappointed… but then no one ever got anywhere by sitting around, waiting for life to happen to them. So here I run, head first into the misty unknown realm, with a small battery-powered torch…
